Considerations
Location: Patios are usually located by a bedroom, living room or kitchen. Think about who will be using your patio most. If you will be using it most you can create a spa like retreat off of your bedroom. For family use, place it off of the living room. Or, for entertaining, put it beside the kitchen.
Exposure: Consider the sun, wind, insects, and public view as well. A patio placed on the north side of your home will be shadier in the summer, but could be colder in the spring and fall. Patios placed on the south or east side of your home will be warmer in the spring and fall but also hotter in the summer.
Size: Think about the activities you would like to use your space for. Place patio furniture where it would be placed. When creating your patio allow some extra room.
